Batty is described as white, 5’5”, 115 lbs., with brown eyes and long, dyed blue hair. She was wearing a black tank top, blue denim cut-off shorts and black Vans sneakers. She has stretchers in her earlobes.

"Concert-goers, promoters, crew, vendors and bands from Toronto’s Vans Warped Tour stop July 4 are being asked to come forward if they remember seeing someone fitting the description of Hannah Batty, or to check their cell phones for inadvertently snapped photos or videos that she happens to be in. The 15-year-old, with long dyed blue hair and wearing a Ghost Town shirt — one of the acts on the bill — was last seen at the lakefront concert at The Flats at Molson Amphitheatre on the Ontario Place grounds at approximately 8 p.m.”  (full article here)

Since I’m sick of hearing people freaking out about the FBI/Moneypak virus, I did some research, including purposely downloading the virus to see what it’s all about so here we go:

The virus is a type on ransomware that cyber criminals use in attempt to disguise themselves as the FBI. The FBI virus utilizes Trojan horses in order to gain access and lock computer systems. The FBI virus practices a variety of unethical tactics, including social engineering in attempt to persuade or scare unsuspecting victims to pay an unnecessary fine by making fraudulent claims that the computer has been involved in illegal activity (downloaded or distributed copyrighted material or viewed child pornography, etc.) and demands a penalty fine of $100, $200, $300, or more to be paid in order to unlock the computer system within the allotted time of 48 to 72 hours by use of Moneypak/greendot cards. The FBI Moneypak ransomware virus also states on the fake FBI screen that the computer owner may see jail time or face other consequences if the unnecessary fine is not paid in time.

I’m sure you’ve seen lots of posts on your dash about how to avoid it, but I’m just going to put in this link just in case, I don’t want this post to be too long.

Okay, so what if you do get it? Then what? Well you can look here on how to remove it manually, there are many different options on how to remove it and its a useful resource. (I recommend you bookmark it on your phone/other computer/screenshot the page etc. so you can look at it in the event that you do get it. It’s really not as serious as most tumblr users are making it out to be, and removing it is fairly easy (I removed it in under 10 minutes) so don’t worry.

So can we please have this go viral because people are spreading around misinformation and fear mongering and I’m sick of it

As of January 16th, the Ukrainian parliament (under concealed orders from Russian-rule supporters) has “passed illegal, unconstitutional laws restricting political speech and the freedoms of assembly, association, and press, taking Ukraine out of the community of free nations, and placing it under a Soviet-style tyranny.” This means that the Ukrainian people have been essentially cut off from the world. Pro-revolution television updates have been either edited or unaired. Newspapers have been censored. The Ukrainian government passed the law without following proper parliamentary procedure, and thus it’s illegal. Since Ukraine has no independent judiciary to nullify the illegal laws, they have to fight for their civil rights or else they will be stripped away. Some people are having their Internet shut off, so they might not always be able to tell people what’s going on. GET THE WORD OUT!
